Fab Dupont Mixing a Neo-Soul Song

$34

01h 07min

(40)

In this video, Fab Dupont mixes a Pop song from scratch using a Universal Audio Apollo and his laptop. UA plug-ins only. Those of you who watched the Apollo launch video for Namm 2012 will recognize the song 'Open Eyed'. It was recorded live at Flux studios on the same system it was mixed on.

This all in the box mix and showcases techniques on drum, bass, and vocal mixing as well as eq, compression and reverb setting, mix balance, 2-bus limiting and more.

Downloads include the stems of the ENTIRE song as well as UAD RS-1 reverb presets that Fab used.

Thanks Fab for a great video. I was hoping to see a little more of the fine tuning process to see different approaches to enhancing drum tones, vocal processing, etc., but it was good to see the EQ balancing to clean up the mix. I was disappointed with the guitar sample timing though. I didn't see the production video to know how that sample came about, but it was a little jarring. If the band played to it as a loop when tracking, it seems to me like it would've been distracting since it's groove was off from the band. My mix - https://soundcloud.com/justin-roth-mixes/open-eyed Thanks!

HI guys. JUst saw these questions. Please post them int he forum, it;s easier for us to catch. Quick answers: I did not hipass on cameara because I used the hipass that is built-in on the Apollo preamps and it worked great. Sorry, I should have noted that. The only plugin I used on the way in was a 1073 flat for transformer emulation on drums overheads and bass. I remember trying a Trident plug on the bass too but I think the Neve won. No eqs anywhere. I used the Echoplex plugin on stun to distort the Wurly so it was printed as you hear it on the stems. The rest was flat thru. Fab

I also ad the same question about Hi-Passing. In this video I didn't see you hi pass like you do in other videos. What was the reasoning behind that for this song?

This one is awsome !!! We got every thing we need to do a real mixing session. Now there is a little question, do you think, Fab, that you can tell about your settings on Apollo when you did the gig. I mean UA plugs that you've used, settings on each tracks and so forth? that it will be magic ... :)
