In this video, you will sit next to Michael as he:

  • Explains his career history
  • Discusses How he learned to hear compression

  • Explains the importance of performing a mix
  • Discusses the evolution from analog to hybrid and eventually hybrid to fully digital in the box
  • Explains how COVID limitations pushed transition to a 100% digital workflow

How come there is no explanation about calibration? I dont have UAD plug ins but have other plug ins to use it instead, but without knowing the right calibration for each buss, it's just impossible to recreate his ideas. It can cause more harm than good! But love all the info finally revealed. We just need a bit more of the technical stuff. Thanks

Where can we find the IR convolution reverb files for Altiverb?
2022 Sep 29
This is one of the best things you can possibly do, amazing!

Thanks a lot, great info! Since I am not using PT, Ihave 2 problems: I cannot use the template, and also it is a bit hard to follow visually, because I have no idea "what all those buttons do" :) Is it possible to create an universal cheat sheet with the routing explained? Now THAT would be awesome. It is really hard to me to follow and take advantage of this great tutorial right now.

Why is the calibration of the compressor buses, not to mention gain staging overall, not covered in the videos at all? We Michael raving about feel over and over, but these details about building a sound are very important, technically. You obviously want to get it set up correctly if you are going to just focus on the sound and mix later.

This documentary it’s simply AMAZING. Awesome work puremix. Everybody needs a Fernando in their lives.

Calibration details?
2022 Sep 27
Hello, Thank you very much for this series of videos on the "Brauerize". Not being a native English speaker I have a little trouble understanding the routing of the voice bus. Is it possible to have a complete routing diagram, because I don't work with ProTools and I would like to adapt it with Studio one and Ableton. And also an explanation how to calibrate all the compressors. Thanks in advance for your answer. Best Regards Angelo

Great video. I did notice some plugins were replaced in the template. The Elyssa Compressor, the Nugen Meter, the Unisom. Also all the plugins on the tracks were missing (Pie compressor, LA-3, Focusrite, Kramer Pie, Fatso) Is there a reason for that?
2022 Sep 26
This has got to be in the top best videos on planet Earth!
2022 Sep 25
anyone have an idea about the right starting point level on each tracks to have the exact amount of compression on every single instruments swell as the parallel compressor?

Dear Michael Brauer, Fernando, Fab Dupont and the Puremix-team: After many years, thanks to hundreds of hours of excellent tutorials, I was able to evolve my mixing-skills. The video about "Brauerizing" is a perfect complement to everything that has gone before and takes the whole science of mixing to a new level of a sonic-vision! The method is very inspiring and i am infinitely grateful to Michael Brauer for making his knowledge available to anyone who is interested in. 1000 thanks! (PS: the template is brilliant - even though many of the plug-ins shown are not inserted)
2022 Sep 23
This is great! Can we get Fernando to do a video explaining compressor calibration and delay compensation?
2022 Sep 23
If anyone feels like building a Logic template, I'd be a very grateful little man!! :)
2022 Sep 23
Thank you. Great to have this information. I'd be interested to learn what AD/DC and monitors he uses. I've seen other videos since the pandemic of him converting a room in his house. Guessing this is that one? Fernando did an incredible job to satisfy his boss and get the sound that made him happy. I use Logic, so there are some routing options not quite the same.

This is absolutely amazing! Thank you Michael for being willing to share your talents and secrets, and thank you Fernando for all of the hard work you put into this.

Really terrific series. Great work puremix! To echo others here, I would love a follow-up video to explain the gain staging and compressor level input set ups, and the relationship with the VCAs. It blows my mind that they are hitting 7-9dbfs without slamming the mix with a limiter. Clearly this has a lot to do with the compression/eq during tracking, but I suspect that it has to do with the gain staging and input levels to the compressor. Also, I would love a Logic version of the template. Sure, I could build one, but I think it would take me a few weeks.

I must say: Fernando Reyes is a BEAST!! MHB is very fortunate to have a great assistant like Fernando. Great job! Cheers!
2022 Sep 21
AMAZING! So incredibly helpful, informative and and entertaining! Thank you Michael & Fernando!!!
2022 Sep 20
Wow! This is just freakin' amazing! Michael is immensly generous in sharing all of that. I really appreciate that he always comes back to the feel of the song he's mixing. This template is kind of a tool to make songs blossom; to add excitement to them. No technical or flashy stuff, just feeling. So inspiring! And Fernando, what a feat has he acccomplished! Merci à Fab & PureMix team

Excellent , very well explained , Highly appreciated!
2022 Sep 20
Is there any info on how to calibrate the compressors and eq on the A, B, C, & D bus'. They don't cover this in the video, and that would be super important if we want to try alternatives to some of the plugins used here. Also the assistant talks about gain staging the raw tracks before Michael starts working with them, but he didn't mention what target he gain stages them to. Really cool info overall, but they left out some very critical details.

An amazing and generous revelation. Thanks so much Michael. Fernado is a mindblowing angel. What a door you guys opened together. He sure made your life easier and more fun... and you've kept your ears. Congratulations. Chapeau to the production team as well. Looks and sounds so good!
2022 Sep 19
Very interesting and informative! Unfortunately, there is no Logic version of the template. I hope that will come soon...
2022 Sep 19
Micheal and his assistance did an excellent job explaining they process.
2022 Sep 19
Hello, I don't know if this is where I should write this, but would it be possible to have subtitles (Spanish, French or Portuguese) in the video? Thanks
2022 Sep 19
Really solid. He goes into so much detail on his choice of routing, plugin settings and overall mix philosophy. There have only been a few times in my career that someone went this deep and I took this many notes. Both of which were in person and I was paying the engineer extra $ to sit in and learn. It's rare you have someone this open and humble to share this much with others. Thank you Michael.
2022 Sep 19
That's great!! It is incredible to know the true procedure between so much successful speculation and not. The original is always better. If you can add subtitles in English and Spanish, many of us would appreciate it.

Studio dog FTW
2022 Sep 18
I would be very grateful if you would subtitle this video and all the others you can in Spanish, because it is difficult to understand all the details well. Thank you very much
2022 Sep 18
Haven't yet download the template, but if this like Fabs stem mixing template that I use, I highly recommend it, it's all I use from tracking to mixing. Took time to wrap my head around the workflow but the outcome was fabulous. Anyway, this tutorial is great, looking forward to re-listen and use this template. One of the best tutorials on Puremix...excellent explanation, thank you for doing this.
2022 Sep 18
This video was awesome! What an engineer and assistant. Thank you! Some amazing skills & tips! Perhaps my favourite yet! I love the way Michael describes how he does everything, as an electronic producer I could translate a lot of what and how he says things into my mixing template! It’s also amazing to see the settings on the analogue emulations and think about how they could be used in house!

This presentation is priceless. Thanks so much to everyone at pureMix for making this available! Michael Brauer explains his method of mixing with such excellent detail - & so passionately! I can't wait to try to incorporate some of his philosophy. "Sonically good without any soul is sonically crap." - what an artist!! XY is absolutely one of the best sounding record, in my opinion too!
