Ep.5 Compression
51 min • 2013
This is Module 5 of 9 of Friedemann Tischmeyer’s Internal Mixing program.
This module deals with frequency distribution and more specifically about compression. You will learn how to use compressors, and everything you need to know about their basic settings, the different compressor types, what are transients and how to apply compression on different sources (snare, bass, vocal, guitar, etc..).

La vidéo est un peu datée et le gars n'a pas le charisme de Fab mais c'est une mine d'infos intéressantes et les exemples sont très bien choisis.

I'd like confirmation / explanation as to why it wouldn't be recommended to automate the master output for a track fade-out?
It's what I've been doing as it's practical and I don't see how the resulting output file would differ?

One slightly confusing thing here is in video 4 where he's talking about adding lo cuts to all tracks to clean things up, he says about the 0-25 Hz range, "for all practical purposes there are now musical sound events in this range." But in this video, discussing bass he warns about using lo-cut filters on bass tracks that are not steep enough and might dampen desirable low frequency content from 32 Hz downwards. I'm not totally sure what the recommendation is w.r.t. lo cuts on bass tracks.

For anyone wondering if this is worth a watch in 2021, especially if you work in a diff DAW, the answer is absolutely. Golden advices on fundamental principles from beginning to end! So glad pureMix is hosting this and applause all day to Mr. Tischmeyer for his work.

I give this a 99 out of 100.
It's not entertaining or comic like Fab stuff, rather boring. But very focused and straight to the point with no distractions.
There's too distraction and gimmicks added to almost every free or paid tutorials out there, but not this one.
I watched very slowly, made lots of annotations and implemented stuff I haven't done before.
Only downside is his screen not being showed flat and clear. Sometimes it's hard to see his settings and what exactly he's doing with the fx chains, sends and returns, etc. But that's all. These videos are dated so it's understandable.
