The mix is set up, and Tony has put together some ideas for where he wants to take the mix. Continuing from part 1, Tony starts automating levels early in the process to begin building the foundation for his vision of "Lifeboats" and continues to perfect the individual tones to support the bigger picture.
See how Tony Maserati:
- Does quick, basic vocal rides to address the level differences between the verses and choruses
- Auditions multiple approaches to the bass guitar tone, and dials in the Thermionic Culture Vulture for texture on the DI
- Comes up with a plan of attack to transition emotionally and sonically from the bridge
- Sets up bus compression on his drum group
- Creates a parallel compression bus for the drums with an SSL bus compressor
- Discusses moving on from ideas
- Dials in a API-2500 on the bass bus

I've been using Melodyne to de-ess - It is tedious to be sure, but to my ear sounds very natural. Thoughts? Thank you Tony. ~ Cindy

I really didn’t understand why he left the saturation in the vox so high in the bridge. I could understand adding more saturation there but not bringing it over the top like he did. It made my ears cringe a bit every time I heard it, even in the final print. I thought maybe he would soften it a bit before that final print, but no.

Excellent tutorial, details will really make or break the song. Many don't even care on what you stated but cricical listener will here it every time..Especially mixers and when you pointed them out . Well done, thanks

Of the many mixers who've worked on the Lifeboats series, only 2-3 have noticed & fixed that out of tune synth early on. The rest continue to torture our ears by looping it over and over without ever seeming to notice how painful the tuning is

watching Tony video always give me all the confidence and inspired me to be better. His vids taught me to be patient and get my idea done and figured out later the challenging parts.
Message to the Pro, let us see your challenges and hear your thought process sometime is the best gift to us because we know how to face ours; When a mix challenge us it's not because we are that bad but instead it's just a part of the mix process. "inside the mix " to me, sucks, and that's why Puremix is the Best.
